Is this the most toxic Cruise group on Facebook? Here’s the group everyone is talking about

If you read a lot of cruise-based Facebook groups like I do, you may have recently come across a group called Entitlement of the Seas.

No, that isn’t a new suite-only class of ship from Royal Caribbean, it’s a Facebook group set up by “Timmy Dee” in early 2023 to highlight some of the ridiculously entitled things that you sometimes see around Facebook-based cruise vacation groups.

Entitlement of the Seas Posting Guidance

Timmy’s original guidance for posting was as follows:-

“Ahoy, Entitlement of the Seas Enthusiasts! 🚢🌟 Let’s set sail down memory lane and spill the beans on the most comical, absurd, and downright outrageous moments from our cruises. Don’t hold back; share your tales of entitlement on the high seas! 😂🌊⚓”

So far, so good.

Like this poster who clearly thinks they know more about ship safety and navigation than the captain:-

I mean nobody minds a bit of fun and if we can’t laugh at ourselves, we should never be laughing at others.

Of course, as you would expect any group that has “of the seas” in the title, a lot of the coverage seems to have been originally sourced in Royal Caribbean cruise groups. Now if you are a Pinnacle member, you might want to stop reading here.

Pinnacle Badge Holders Might Not Want To Read This

You see, your loyalty level also appears to attract a level of entitlement that has not gone unnoticed by this group’s members.

I mean, it’s all well having accrued a jaw-dropping 700 cruise-day points, but do you really need to wear a badge to flaunt your status to the rest of your cruise buddies.

Personally, I don’t have any issues with it, but I know more than a few cruise friends who love to wind up Pinnacle badge wearers, by pretending that (because they are wearing a badge) they must be staff members, so continuously ask them to go and get a drink for them.

In an effort to further wind-up their Pinnacle-badge-wearing shipmates the group has even produced their own badge that you can order from the Admin’s company – “Entitlement of the Seas Member – Pre-Gold”.

Now that’s funny!

Of course it’s not just Royal Caribbean cruisers that have some fun poked at them – here’s an example of a unwitting Princess Cruise Line cruiser whose post was shared in the group.

And how about this one….again featuring Royal Caribbean cruisers, this time complaining about the new pin badge design for Diamond Plus Cruisers (They do seem to like their badges LOL).

Or how about the situation that can happen over the laundry machines, which I am sure many of us can relate to:-

At this point you can see that in most cases, the original posters’ names are blanked out for privacy reasons, which is commendable. But in a group with over 28,000 members, there are occasions where people either deliberately don’t do that, don’t have the tech skills to do it, or simply forget.

And then you have the arguments….what is entitlement really?

One person’s entitlement is another person’s argument, right?

This is where it can all go a bit wrong, and some of the posts on the group can go a little sideways quickly.

Like a recent post about someone posting a complaint that people were touching their service dog without permission. This all went well at first, with people pointing out that service dogs should not be touched without the permission of the owner.

Then someone posted asking if it was really a service dog or a “fake” service dog? Cue arguments back and forth until the comments on the whole thread were switched off by the original poster.

And there lies the problem with any Facebook group – people have their own opinions, which they are perfectly entitled to. But as soon as they express that opinion, others come along declaring that opinion to be 100% wrong and an argument ensues.

To be fair to the admin and moderators of Entitlement of the Seas, this is no different from many Facebook groups out there – people can be downright nasty when sitting at a keyboard.

Everyone’s Entitled To Act Stupid Occasionally But Don’t Abuse The Privilege

So while some people have been declaring that this group is the most toxic cruise group on Facebook, I would say that right now, it really is no different from many other groups out there.

So just remember, one person’s entitlement, is another person’s opportunity to poke fun, which is another person’s trigger to start an argument.

Take these things with a pinch of salt, remember that there are always people out there who will get a kick out making fun out of others. But that is at the root of most comedy – and we like comedians don’t we?

So before we get on our high horse bemoaning groups like these – just take a breath, relax and perhaps become a little less entitled. 😉
