Well, these things are always very subjective! But as someone who has cruised more than a few times, let me give you some pointers towards my preference (which is the Disney Wish) and then we’ll expand the criteria a bit, depending on your own cruising needs.

The Best Disney Cruise Ship – Every Ship Reviewed

The Walt Disney Cruise Line Fleet by Age

Currently, the Disney Cruise Line fleet comprises five ships, each with its own unique offerings and experiences for guests. Here’s a breakdown of each ship by age:

Disney Magic is the grand old lady of the fleet. She took her maiden voyage in 1988 and hasn’t slowed down since. Don’t let her age fool you. In October 2013, she got a fabulous facelift, with swanky new rooms, delicious dining, and cool entertainment.

With a Gross Tonnage of 83,000, she can host up to 2,713 lucky guests, aided by her 945-strong crew. Currently Disney Magic covers itineraries that include Baja California, The Bahamas, The Western Caribbean, and the Eastern Caribean.

Disney Cruise Ships Ranked in Reverse Order

Okay. Cards on the table here and full disclosure. I want to be open and honest with you. Although I love Disney Cruise Line, I confess that I have only cruised with them twice. Once the Disney Magic and on the Disney Wish.

My rankings that you read here are based on my own experience and having read countless other reviews and social media posts.

So remember, this is just my opinion on what is the best disney cruise! But here’s my ranking of the best Disney Cruise ships, starting with my least favorite and ending with the best:

  1. Disney Wonder: While the Disney Wonder is still a fantastic ship, it’s the second oldest in the fleet and starting to show its age. The ship lacks some of the newer amenities and features found on the other ships, but it’s still a great option for families looking for a classic Disney Cruise experience.
  2. Disney Magic: The Disney Magic is a beautiful ship with a lot of charm, but it’s also one of the smallest in the fleet. While it’s great for families with younger children, it can feel a bit cramped for larger groups or those looking for more space.
  3. Disney Dream: The Disney Dream is a great ship with plenty of activities and amenities for all ages. However, it’s not quite as impressive as the newer ships in the fleet and can feel a bit crowded during peak travel seasons.
  4. Disney Fantasy: The Disney Fantasy is stunning with plenty of space and activities for all ages. It’s one of the newer ships in the fleet and features some of the most impressive amenities, including a water coaster and Broadway-style shows.
  5. Disney Wish: The newest ship in the fleet, the Disney Wish, is hands down the best Disney Cruise ship. With state-of-the-art technology, incredible dining options, and some of the most impressive entertainment at sea, the Disney Wish sets a new standard for luxury cruising. It’s perfect for families, couples, and anyone looking for an unforgettable vacation experience.

Overall, each Disney Cruise ship offers something unique and special, but Disney Wish is the clear winner in my book.

However, before you decide what Ship would be best for you, let’s take a look at each one of them in detail. I’ll put them in same order as shown above. So from my least favorite to the best.

An Overview of The Disney Wonder

Let’s dive right into the heart of the Disney Wonder, a floating paradise that’s all about bringing magic to the high seas. This ship weighs a whopping 83,000 tons, but don’t worry, it floats just fine. With 11 decks and room for 2,400 passengers, there’s plenty of fun to go around.

Entertainment and Activities on the Disney Wonder

Disney Wonder has fun on tap! Want to catch a Broadway-style show? Check out the Walt Disney Theatre. More of a movie buff? No problem, there’s a movie theater too. And for the little ones, there’s the Oceaneer Club, where they can hang out with Mickey and pals. Let’s not forget the pool. Or should I say pools? There are three of them!

Dining on the Disney Wonder

Hungry? The Disney Wonder’s got you covered. From fancy-schmancy meals at Palo to all-you-can-eat buffets at Cabanas, your taste buds are in for a treat. Don’t worry, they’ve got chicken nuggets and mac ‘n’ cheese for the kids, too!

Staterooms on the Disney Wonder

After a day of fun, you’ll need a place to crash. The staterooms on Disney Wonder are cozy and comfy. The rooms have that classic Disney touch, and yes, there’s a TV so you won’t miss your favorite shows. You can pick from inside, ocean view, or verandah staterooms. And the best part? They all come with 24/7 room service. Now that’s what I call luxury!

What to Expect When Boarding the Disney Wonder

Boarding the Disney Wonder is like stepping into a Disney movie. There’s music, characters, and smiles all around. It’s just magical. Think of the first time you walked into Main Street at Magic Kingdom. Remember that feeling?

The Disney Wonder experience is something you won’t forget. It’s like Disney World, but on a boat. There’s magic around every corner, from character meet-and-greets to pirate-themed parties. And did I mention the fireworks? Yes, folks, there are fireworks at sea on most itineraries!

However, if I was to focus on one group, I would say the Disney Wonder is best suited to Teens.

An Overview of The Disney Magic

My first experience of Disney Cruise Line was the Disney Magic. I remember describing it as a floating castle chock-full of Disney magic. She’s not the newest ship around, launched in 1998, but she’s still looking as spry as Tinker Bell, thanks to regular makeovers.

With 11 decks, 875 staterooms, and a capacity for 2,700 passengers, she’s a medium-sized ship. But don’t let that fool you. She’s brimming with fun, just like Goofy on a sugar high.

Entertainment and Activities on the Disney Magic

The Disney Magic is like Disneyland at sea. Think Broadway-style shows featuring your favourite characters like Belle and Rapunzel. The “Tangled: The Musical” and “Disney Dreams: An Enchanted Classic” are top-notch, enough to make your heart sing “Hakuna Matata”.

For action lovers, there’s the AquaDunk water slide. It’s like a magic carpet ride but with water – lots of it. And don’t forget about the kids’ clubs. They’re as fun as a barrel of Dumbos, with stuff like Marvel Super Hero Academy. Even adults might wish they could join!

Dining on the Disney Magic

Dining on the Disney Magic is like a foodie’s trip through the Magic Kingdom. From the Animator’s Palate, where the walls come alive with Disney magic, to Lumiere’s, which will make you feel like you’re in the Beast’s castle, every meal is an adventure. And don’t worry folks. You won’t turn ever go hungry, there are food options around the clock.

Staterooms on the Disney Magic

The staterooms on the Disney Magic were very comfy. We were traveling on a tight budget, so we had an inside cabin. It was very cozy and charming. I do miss a window though. I managed to sneak a look at the Concierge Royal Suite. This was fit for a King!

What to Expect When Boarding the Disney Magic

Boarding the Disney Magic feels like stepping into a Disney movie. From the moment you’re greeted by crew members in sailor outfits (cute, right?), you’ll feel like you’re about to embark on an adventure with Mickey and pals.

You’ll notice the ship’s design is a nostalgic nod to the golden era of cruising. With its black hull, white superstructure, and twin red funnels, it’s like stepping back in time. But don’t worry, it has all the modern comforts you need!

Customer Service on the Disney Magic

The crew on the Disney Magic are as friendly as Mickey himself. They have a can-do attitude and warm smiles, they’ll make you feel like a VIP. Got a problem? They’ll solve it faster than Genie granting Aladdin’s wishes. We never saw lines at the Customer Service desk apart from on the first day and the departure day, which to be fair, is typical of most cruise ships.

The Disney Magic Experience

The Disney Magic isn’t just a cruise ship, it’s a whole experience. From the moment you step on board, you’ll be swept up in a whirlwind of Disney magic.

There’s a daily schedule packed with activities for all ages. From movie nights under the stars to deck parties with your favorite characters, there’s never a dull moment. And don’t forget about Castaway Cay, Disney’s private island. It’s like a slice of paradise, with crystal-clear waters and white sandy beaches.

Dining on the Disney Wish

Disney Wish takes you on a culinary journey that’s sure to tickle your taste buds. Personally, I’m no foodie, but Morag is and she really appreciated the dining experience on Disney Wish.

From the royal banquet at Arendelle to the Marvel-inspired dining experience at Worlds of Marvel, you’ll want to keep your fork handy! And is you love a Filet Mignon like I do, then the Palo Steakhouse is a must-try.

Staterooms on the Disney Wish

Your cozy home away from home, the staterooms on Disney Wish are fit for a Disney prince or princess. With options ranging from standard rooms to lavish two-story royal suites, they’ve got all the comforts you’d wish for. And those ocean views? Simply spellbinding!

Once again we went for an inside room and I was hoping for a “magic porthole” but sadly the Disney Wish does not feature these.

What to Expect When Boarding the Disney Wish

As you step aboard the Disney Wish, you’ll feel like you’re entering a fairytale. You enter the “Grand Hall” with its incredible chandelier which was designed to resemble Cinderella’s ballroom gown. Make sure you stop for a quick photo beside the Cinderella statue at the bottom of the atrium.

Disney Wish isn’t just for kids, seniors can have a blast too! Morag and I certainly did! We were able to enjoy quiet moments at the adult-only spaces, indulge in gourmet dining, or take a leisurely dip in the adults pool. I was quite amazed actually. With it being “the new ship” I expected it to be wall-to-wall kids screaming loudly. Even though there were tons of kids on board, it never did feel that way.

For couples looking for a magical getaway, the Disney Wish hits the sweet spot. Imagine dining under the stars, catching a Broadway-caliber show, and ending the night with a romantic stroll on the deck. It’s date night done right!
